We are excited to introduce, Sofa Queen Bitchin’ IPA, proudly brewed by the women of Payette Brewing

In honor of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2023), the women of Payette Brewing came together to brew a small batch West Coast IPA, Sofa Queen, being released on tap for a limited time!

We partnered with Pink Boot’s Society for this beer and could not be more grateful for the opportunity to brew in celebration of women in the beer industry. Pink Boots Society is a non-profit organization, determined to support women in the brewing profession. Founded by Teri Fahrendorf, the organization aims to inspire, assist and encourage women and non-binary individuals to make an impact in the fermented industry!

This year, Payette Brewing received the 6th Annual Blend from Yakima Chief Hops with Pink Boots Society, which was chosen at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver last September. Fahrendorf mentions, “Donations from teams participating in Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day and proceeds from the sales of our annual Pink Boots Hop Blend help fund our scholarships and other educational initiatives in line with the Pink Boots mission.”

On February 22nd, women of Payette Brewing joined our Lead Brewer, David Torres, on the brew deck to create a fun new beer with that special hop blend. Through milling, mashing, lautering, and boiling, the group was able to ask questions, learn more about the brewing process, and help with the process, all while enjoying a few Payette brews. After going into the fermentation tank at the end of the day, about a week later on February 28th, an additional allotment of the Yakima Chief hops were added. That stage of hop addition is called dry-hopping, which gives the beer an extra kick of flavor and aroma during fermentation.

Sofa Queen Bitchin’ IPA will be released on tap on International Women's Day and available for a limited time at the brewery. Wednesday, March 8th, please join us in the Tap Room to try Sofa Queen and enter into a raffle for a fun gift bundle of locally donated goods from women-owned businesses. We owe a huge thank you to these awesome companies for providing the goodies, Fluff Hardware, Lost Sage, Meriwether Cider House, Saalt Co., Hot Eric Honey, Colvita Creative, and Payette Brewing!

Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day® (CBD) is an international celebration of women and non-binary individuals in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry — a movement to recognize the impact they have on our industry. Each year, registered teams brew beer and participate in Collaboration Brew Day, donating portions of the proceeds of their sales to help fund scholarships that support the Pink Boots mission to assist, inspire, and encourage the professional development and education of women and non-binary individuals in our industry. It is our largest, annual fundraising event.
